The methodology by which a claimant’s capacity to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADL) is a critical component of any personal injury claim.
The American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Fifth Edition (AMA5), show how much weight an individual’s capacity to perform ADL’s contributes to their permanent impairment rating. Therefore a methodical, evidence-based approach to assessing ADL impairment, coupled with well supported recommendations for future care, equipment, and therapy, is the crucial final chapter to any “claim story”.
Every individual is different. Every family is different. Injuries manifest differently for everyone.
When dovetailed with a sound methodology for evaluating these elements in relation to each other, whilst maintaining consistency with the AMA5 approach to evaluating function, a powerful piece of expert evidence is generated.

Methodology
When preparing a medico-legal assessment of a claimant’s ADL capacity and need for assessment, a home visit is recommended as it provides a strong evidence base upon which the subsequent recommendations are made.
Photographic evidence may be included in the report to align with the medical evidence, a functional assessment, and subsequent recommendations for equipment, therapy, and care.
By using AMA5 language and methodology, Claire’s ADL report will tie in seamlessly with your other expert reports. The resulting report is clear, strong and well substantiated.
